BRAND BBA ARCHITECTS DEVELOPS
COUNTRY VILLA IN NIEUW-LEKKERLAND
In a small town Nieuw-Lekkerland, South of the river Lek, a beautiful country villa was built.
VITA DI LUSSO was invited by The Art of Living, Brand BBA Architects and the residents
to have a look. I have to conclude: this is country living at its best!
Artist Impression on LinkedIn
When Brand BBA Architects learned that a piece of land on the outskirts of Nieuw-Lekkerland was being released, they immediately started workin on it. Using a so-called ‘artist impression’, they presented a number of houses in different architectural styles on the vacant lots. Subsequently they published this on LinkedIn and the local newspaper. The message ended up on the digital timeline of a number of followers and not much later there were six seriously interested people.
Standing strong together
But how can you guide six interested people through such a complex process? And as a client, how can you make your own decisions regarding your property?
The answer to those questions was the Collective Private Contractor ship. The CPC is a form of social development in which future residents are jointly responsible for their own new construction project.
Jaap Brand of Brand BBA Architects: “In such a construction, future residents are very determined. The willingness, involvement and enthusiasm is quite high from the beginning. That is crucial, because you need each other throughout the entire process. Together with the Griffioen family we organised a barbeque in order to get to know each other better and to hear about everybody’s individual wishes and demands.
The wishes of the Griffioen family were very clear since the beginning. The house had to get a country living look with a nice view over the characteristic meadows. It also had to accommodate a family with four children.
Brand BBA Architects designed a type of house that was completely in line with their demands. Next to that, it fits seamlessly into its environment. However, such a villa was not built here before. Luckily, Brand BBA Architects did not have to go through much trouble to get an agreement from authorities. They are well-known in this region so getting all the required licenses was easy.
Brand BBA Architects took care of the entire design and hired a local contractor with regard to the execution. In doing so, a number of architectural challenges had to be taken into account. For instance, the residents liked to have a ‘floating’ overflow above the open entrance. Also a prefab bin had to be put under water to create a basement. And it was equally exciting whether a second fire place could be created in the kitchen. But during the tour, I could see it all worked out quite well.
Country living style
All rooms are furnished in country living style, which is very much in line with the architecture of the house and its location. The Griffioen family indicates, that from the very beginning they knew how the interior should look like. So dressing up the home did not cost a lot of time.
This country style has also been implemented consistently outside. For the exterior of the house, Brand BBA Architects was inspired by the architecture in the area. Authentic barns with their shutters, thatched roofs and wooden details formed the basis of the exterior appearance. Local landscape architects supplemented this with an appropriate garden design. The Griffioen family provided suitable outdoor furniture themselves.
Finally, Brand BBA Architects states: “Building a house is instructive, sometimes hard but also very satisfying. The CPC concept has worked very favourably for these participants. They even already indicate that it has been a good investment as well.”
