AWARD WINNING CC-TAPIS MOVES FORWARD
WITH NEW LABEL METROQUADRO
This spring I was invited by Dutch design store Co van der Horst to interview Fabrizio Cantoni of cc-tapis
during their textile event. At that time I could not foresee that conversation would have such an impact
on my work as a professional blogger. It was so inspiring, that afterwards I decided to give Italian design
an even more exclusive podium than I already did with LEEM WONEN.
So I’m very pleased to have published this blog on VITA DI LUSSO, the blogazine for luxurious Italian design!
And of course I could not skip a visit to cc-tapis when I was in Milan in November.
Right timing, because they had lot’s of updates to share!

Worldwide recognition
For years, and with a lot of passion, cc-tapis designs exclusive rugs. This extraordinary objects are being produced in an authentic way in Nepal. Fabrizio and his wife Nelcya started their business in France. A few years later they moved to design capital Milan, where they gained more brand awareness and international fame.
Nowadays the most leading topdesigners, such as Patricia Urquiola and Studio Pepe, are standing in line to design for cc-tapis.
And the winner is….
During Salone del Mobile I experienced how well the ‘Dutchies’ get along with the Italians. The ‘Big Bliss’, which was designed by ‘our’ Mea Engelgeer for cc-tapis, is the perfect example. This design actually won the Archiproducts Design Award 2017!
And other designs attracted some attention of jury’s as well. Because the ‘After Party’ of Garth Roberts received the German Design Award 2018.

New label Metroquadro
You can imagine hand-knotted rugs have a long delivery time. But some clients rather have their eye-catching interior piece a few weeks earlier. Therefor cc-tapis developed a new label: Metroquadro. Hand-woven in stead of hand-knotted and created with a handloom technique in Nepal. Contemporary patterns and geometric motifs created with rich materials and artisanal production. Catering for the needs of interior designers and architects who require large quantities of high-quality bespoke rugs. A collection which gives the freedom to create rugs with the sizes, materials and colors of your choice, with a sharp delivery time of six to eight weeks.

Secretly smuggling
The realisation of Metroquadro was actually not that easy. First of all, hand-weaving is a different process compared to hand-knotting. So the artisans in Nepal needed new knowledge as well as new materials. But Nepal is a very locked up country where borders are often closed, so cc-tapis had to actually secretly smuggle their valuable cargo via India. Risky business, but eventually it worked out well. Newsflash: I already spotted model Hello Sonia! in the showroom of the Dutch store Edha Interieur!
