TREND REPORT AUTUMN 2018
– ROYAL BLUE –
For this early autumn 2018, trend analist and textile designer Irene van Vliet of Woven Wonders
presents Royal Blue in her quarterly Trend Report. Normally, I only publish these reports on LEEM WONEN,
but this time I loved sharing it with you on VITA DI LUSSO as well. Is that because of the colour blue?
Reminding me of the beautiful blue waters of Venice or Lake Como? The sunny blue skies above Milan
during my visits? Blue fabrics, wall decorations or furniture pieces? In any case: I love blue! You too?

The early autumn trend 2018 ‘Royal Blue’ is inspired by all shades of blue. Royal Blue stands for calmness, peace, love, justice, truth and loyalty. Slightly conservative, but most of all honest and persistent. It reminds me of our Royal Family and the beautiful Royal Blue dress of fashion designer Jan Taminiau that our Queen Maxima wore at the inauguration of King Willem Alexander.
But Royal Blue goes a few steps further. Because we also see a lighter ‘Parsian Blue’ and a much darker ‘Twilight Blue’. These represent the structure of the trend materials, like rough linen, painted with Indigo Blue, but also soft velvet in a nearly black Night Blue.
Coral Red and Wheat Yellow are the accent colours of this early autumn. Like a wink to the latest blooming of the trees, but in fact a reference to red brick walls and yellow wooden floors with geometric patterns. When it comes to shapes, we still see a lot of round, gracious and slim. Imagine elegant high candle holders and all kinds of slender lighting fixtures.
Royal Blue gives us new energy after this long, hot summer. Which is good, because the interior season is about to kick off! Hello beautiful Royal Blue!
