BAXTER FLAGSHIP STORE AMSTERDAM
CELEBRATES 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
Last week, the Baxter Flagship Store in Amsterdam celebrated its 1-year anniversary.
For this special occasion the store was furnished with the latest interior- and art pieces
as presented in Milan during Salone del Mobile back in April. Also, Paolo Bestetti, the owner of Baxter and
designers Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow were there to tell us more about their collaboration.
Baxter and VITA DI LUSSO
My love for Baxter goes way back. I can still remember, as a child I spent much time in the comfy dark brown leather Baxter couch we had in our livingroom. But also the years thereafter I enjoyed the bold Italian design label by seeing it in the magazines.
Because of the Baxter Amsterdam Flagship Store’s opening last year, I was invited to bring a visit to the Headquarters of Baxter, as well as the factory, the showroom and the Baxter Bar in Milan, which had just been opened. You can imagine, I had a great time and this 1-year anniversary was the perfect event for me to catch up.
Draga and Aurel, who are married in every day life, work with Baxter already for several years and describe their collaboration as a kind of marriage. Drama: “Compare it with a relationship. First, you have to get to know each other a little. Sometimes you are surprised about the other one’s characteristics, just like the other one is amazed about yours. In the beginning I had to accustom myself but later I sensed it like it had always been there. We admire each others work and we are keeping a close eye on each others individualities.” Which results in very stylish and successful designs!
Draga and Aurel inspire themselves by art in general, their passion for ‘vintage’ and the fact that they work with many great designers, such as Piero Lissoni, Paola Navone and Studiopepe. In her work, Draga always tries to make connections between textiles and painting. It enables her to create unique collections, where colors, patterns and materials meet and where a mixture between past and present arises.
Draga: “I love working with leather. Leather immediately stimulates all your senses and next to that, it has a lot of possibilities when it comes to manufacturing. It is printable, I can decorate it, colour it and also the natural aging process offers a lot of design options. The minute I start working with Baxter leather, an experimental, research kind of process starts. I call it ‘Dragatura’. And it always makes us curious about the outcome.”
