WNS ARCHITECTS BUILDS FAN-SHAPED
VILLA IN THE WESTLAND
Where the sky colours orange at night. That spot, which marks The Netherlands on the globe,
as seen from space. Glass Town. I am talking about the Westland, located nearby The Hague
and the picturesque Delft. A wealthy place, because of the quickly developing agribusiness.
And between the glasshouses WnS Architects built a unique villa.
VITA DI LUSSO stopped by to have a look.

Ideal situation
Jessica (occupant of this house): “It is because of my husband’s job that we were looking for a new house here in the Westland. He has a busy job at the Port of Rotterdam and has to be available 24/7. It was extremely difficult to find the perfect location, but finally, after a search of many years, we found this parcel.”
This villa quarter is built on a peninsula with an open waterway to De Gantel. Every villa has a different style. This particular villa was built in a fan-shape. Dave (architect): “Of course one can make it easy for himself and build in a more regular shape, but I chose to create an ideal situation. So I placed the villa in the centre of this parcel, where the residents can enjoy the total concept.

Striking exterior
This villa has a clear centre, marked by a huge chimney which ‘supports’ the whole plan and by a high rooftop with a big cutwater. Furthermore, the villa has two side wings, equipped with large dormers and windows. The roof was covered with black roof tiles and to give this striking exterior a little warmth, they placed wooden panels painted in black.
The garden design is totally in line with the shape of the villa as well as with the interior. At one side there is an active part where the kids can play, in the centre there is a flower border which is a very nice to look at from inside, and on the other side there is a sunny terrace where everyone can relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Open, yet intimate interior
Although this is a spacious villa and the floor plan is quite open, it still has an intimate interior atmosphere. Next to that, there are a few nice details to discover, such as the pearle-shell tiles on the kitchen wall, the prominent pendant above the oval dining table and the open fire place between the dining and the lounge.
On the first floor WnS Architects created a mini apartment for the adults, with a master bedroom, a bathroom and a walk-in closet. The kids space is in the side wings, including a separate bathroom, a fitness room and a laundry room. It is nice to experience the fan-shape of the house here as well.

On my way home I can’t stop thinking about this extraordinary house. Are you also looking for an ‘out of the box’ architect? Then contact WnS Architects!
