THE UNIQUE VILLA OF
TOPDESIGNER OSIRIS HERTMAN
Osiris Hertman knows how to mix and match his love for craft and materials with his knowledge.
Over more than 20 years he designs interiors for clients with the retail-, hospitality- and the residential branch.
But how about his own home? VITA DI LUSSO brought a visit to his villa, located in the ‘Kennemerduinen’.

Dream house in the dunes
About one and a half year ago, in this lovely wooded area, this villa was for sale. The home itself was not that special, but the location certainly was. It was the perfect estate for a huge renovation. Osiris Hertman stripped the entire inside and left only a part of the outside wall. Subsequently, the roof was extended with a huge steel construction, so that an extension was also realized at the rear.
The now almost new building was given a bamboo covering on the outside. It is well known that bamboo can be processed very well as a plate material for table or counter tops. Unique in the Netherlands, however, is the use of bamboo for a complete exterior façade. The grasses were first cooked, pressed and then applied to the walls in varying widths. The eccentric designer combined these panels with a mud-colored stucco; an idea that he gained during a stay in one of his favorite hotels. He chose robust boulders for the conversion of the eye-catching chimney. These have the same dune sand color shade as the semi-hardened dolomite gravel that has been laid around the house.
So slowly but surely a real dream villa with international allure was created in the dunes of Kennemerland, which now offers space for this Dutch Designer and his family.

Unique co-creations
The striking thing about the interior designs of Osiris Hertman is the great diversity of materials and the presence of original, hand-made objects. And that is no different in his own new home. To get those rare pieces, Osiris Hertman travels around the world and collaborates with craftsmen who he carefully selects. “I like working with studios around the world that are able to translate my wondrous fantasies into products that radiate beauty and craftsmanship.”
For example, I spotted a chic hand-painted leather on the wall at the dining area, a vintage see-through window from an old ship in the seating area, two enormous French 14th century carved doors from rich Indian gentlemen in the master bedroom and green-red glazed hexagon tiles on the meters long splash wall in the kitchen. This color and form combination was conceived by Osiris Hertman in Turkey and he had him made locally by a local studio. A nice example of pure craft; every tile is unique.

Earlier this year I spoke Osiris Hertman at ETC Design Center Europe in Culemborg, where he presented his co-creations at his stand ‘Atelier Osiris’ and put a number of cooperating partners in the spotlight. He then unveiled a number of new lighting designs, made by Maretti Lighting. There are huge Ebru carpets, accompanied by XXL pots from Atelier Square and visitors can admire their new steel pivot doors covered with leather, produced by De Rooij.
And I have something in store when it comes to co-creations, because soon Osiris will release a new collection of door handles in collaboration with Formani. And in March 2019 at the ISH in Frankfurt, together with Jee-O, he will launch a new bathroom collection and wellness products.
Technical delights
Some technical ingenuity has also been used here and there. Modern ‘hidden treasures’ that you do not notice at first glance but are there and make everyday life a bit more pleasant for every family member. As a lover of modern technology and domotics, Osiris Hertman in his own home could of course completely break loose on this part. In the kitchen, for example, Miele’s latest equipment was used. What to think of a combi-device with an integrated cookbook that asks smart questions such as: are you going to prepare meat, fish or vegetables? And do you want the dorade baked, grilled or steamed? This hands-free chef offers the tastiest recipes with just the touch on the touch screen, guarantees the preservation of pure taste and vitamins and even comes out when it needs to be cleaned.

The top floor does is not different from the ground floor, because there too I find a number of things that generally make everyone’s heart beat a bit faster. So you can completely relax in the steam cabin supported by your favorite color lighting and your favorite music. The curtains in the bedrooms can be controlled remotely and you can enjoy an artificial starry sky of hundreds of LEDs that shine through the onyx stone under the XL rain shower.
I could wander for hours in this unique home, but unfortunately I had to continue this inspiring voyage of discovery at the end of the afternoon on the somewhat less inspiring Dutch motorways to the south. Osiris Hertman himself has not yet arrived at his final destination. His creative journey, as he indicates, has only just begun. There are a number of great things on his agenda. Exciting! I like to keep you informed of his developments.

Hi there! Such a nice write-up, thank you!
