Who paid attention, knows that I visited the showroom of Modulnova last year in Milan.
When I met them again in January at the New Year’s Event of the Modulnova Flagshipstore in Holland,
they surprised me with an invitation to the Head Quarters in Prata di Pordenone, nearby Venice.
The perfect moment to look back at 30 years of success and to also look forward
to the upcoming edition of Milan Design Week. What a great experience that was,
and what a lovely interview with the Modulnova management!
Modulnova in a nutshell
The Presotto family has been active in the furniture industry since 1949. Under their guidance the three brothers set up Modulnova in 1988, in order to craft increasingly innovative, high end design furniture and kitchen concepts. To distinguish themselves, their goal was to create timeless designs, apply sleek but elegant lines and only make use of the best materials. With an eye for detail and completion.
In only thirty years, Modulnova positioned itself in the absolute top of the kitchen branch. With only Boffi to consider, Modulnova as a runner up has the largest turnover within this section and their kitchens are sold worldwide.
Mastermind Dario Presotto
Dario Presotto, one of the three brothers, is considered to be the mastermind of Modulnova. He kwows the market like no one else, anticipates, guides, takes the major decisions and inspires the whole team in between.
Since Marc van der Burch, the Dutch agent for Modulnova, presented me this brand, I fell in love immediately. De shapes, the materials…. It must be a real pleasure to actually live in your own creation at home. How often can we find you in your own kitchen? What do you like most of your kitchen? Do you cook? What is your favourite recipe?
“I use the kitchen when I find the time to do it because my work absorbs a lot of time. I love my design, the material I used that I want to work in freedom, its functionality and the design that allows you to have convivial atmospheres. In the kitchen area I am entertained with my family, often with my friends and not only for the preparation of food but also to consume it.
My favorite dishes are pasta and excellent fish cooked in the oven, all paired with new potatoes and pachino tomatoes cooked in a steam oven to have a light cuisine that enhances the flavors of the raw materials used … naturally combined with excellent Italian wines.”
Milan Design Week
The whole kitchen branch is looking forward to Salone. Especially to Eurocucina. This morning you showed me one of your new designs, which looks promising! What do you expect of this year’s event?
“We expect a lot of international interest of architects, designers, dealers and journalists as well. Next to that, a consolidation of our brand and a growing satisfaction of our partners in working with us and us with them.
Besides two new indoor kitchen concepts, we will also present a new outdoor kitchen. All designed with new shapes, finishes, colours and provided with the latest techniques. Therefor our showroom in the centre of Milan is totally renewed. We definitely will inspire all visitors with our high end creations and enlarge our network.”
Trends & Innovations
Compared with thirty years ago, what are the most striking trends and innovations?
“Trends and innovations mostly take place in the field of shapes, materials, design and ergonomics. But to be honest, that is a precise thread that we obstinately pursue. Together with research and innovation this has always distinguished us in these thirty years.
What really stands out nowadays, is the use of stones. Not only for kitchen tops, but also for fronts for drawers and wall panelling. Besides using various types of stone, Modulnova also pioneers with honeycomb aluminium, which is a very sustainable, recyclable and light material. We mix and match those materials and also apply them in our furniture concepts. This enables a beautiful interaction in the entire interior.”
This year Modulnova celebrates its 30-year anniversary. How did you experience the growth of your brand? Which challenges did occur and where does Modulnova stand today?
“We will surely celebrate our anniversary! On the 19th of April a party takes place next to our showroom in Milan.
Like all entrepreneurs, my brothers and I left with a dream. Our dream was to do a project together. Coming from a family history of furniture manufacturers, we are the third generation. Our daily commitment and those of our high quality employees has allowed us to achieve our goals.
Indeed, Modulnova grew out to be one of the most leading kitchen brands in just a very short period of time. Our kitchen- and interior concepts are sold worldwide and we have proven to be the best alternative, especially when you look at our prices versus high quality.
Today, we set the trend. We are not just the alternative, but the choice. And we are really proud of that! At the same time, we are aware that this is just the beginning. The biggest challenge, something we find very important and work on at a daily basis, is to hand over the Modulnova spirit to our agents and dealers. Because Modulnova is not just a kitchen or an interior; it is a lifestyle.”
