SUSTAINABILITY COMES NATURALLY
IN THE STRATEGY OF DUTCH ROYAL AHREND
Ahrend stands for sustainable products and was inspired, among other things,
by the philosophy “less is more” of designer Friso Kramer, known for the Revolt chair,
launched in 1953. Friso Kramer is also known for designs that stand out, precisely because
they do not catch the eye. This is still reflected in Ahrend’s products: logical, durable and timeless.
With almost 125 years of design history, Ahrend is innovative with its services, products and materials.

VITALISING WORKSPACES
In the designs of Ahrend products and furnishings, design, well-being and productivity of the user are central, in other words: ‘vitalizing workspaces’. These environments promote well-being, facilitate diversity, create connectedness and increase productivity. Ahrend products are tailored to the current needs of the users, such as products that improve acoustics, offer privacy or restore tranquility.

SUSTAINABILITY IS WALK THE TALK
As a pioneer in the office furnishing sector, Ahrend is setting itself increasingly ambitious goals to minimize the burden on the planet. Since 1990, CO2 emissions from Dutch production locations have fallen by more than 55%. And in the coming years, Ahrend will reduce this by another 50% worldwide. In addition, products are always designed modularly, using only the best materials. In this way, Ahrend ensures a minimal environmental impact and extends the life cycle of products from start to finish.

SUSTAINABILITY IS WORKING TOGETHER
In a circular economy, materials are endlessly reused. This is only possible by working together. Ahrend therefore offers customers ‘Furniture as a Service’, a sharing platform on which furniture is exchanged, based on supply and demand. Think of it as a marketplace for furniture, where you as a customer can return used products. The old furniture is refurbished and reused for another customer. This prevents waste of products and materials and contributes to the achievement of CO2 targets of the organization concerned.

SUSTAINABILITY IS DESIGN
The Salone Manifesto, which calls on designers to create solutions that contribute to the well-being of people and the planet, is endorsed by Ahrend. With Ahrend’s mission to create vitalising workspaces with sustainable products designed for multiple life cycles and produced in environmentally friendly and social factories, they put the well-being of people and the planet at the center without making concessions to design.
